These are stories of the ministries served by Stone Soup, the work that they do, and the people they reach. Soon there will be links to see the rest of the story, and related media.

Haiti
Water Well drilling

Global Outreach Haiti runs a conference center near Port au Prince. Their work includes a feeding program, a burn clinics, elementary schools, drilling water wells, preaching, training and more. At the right is a photo of villagers that travel for miles to get water from these wells, because water is so scarce and many times undrinkable. David Heady devotes a great deal of his time to the upkeep of the wells, and also the mountain roads that many of the people travel on to bring their goods to market, and to draw water.

India
Children in need of rescue

There is a village in India that has been home to two boys for all of their lives. That is, until their mother hung herself on the village tree to escape the beatings her husband gave. A month later when their father hung himself on the same tree, the eldest boy ran away to live in the train station, because the elderly grandmother could not longer keep them. The Boys Rescue Home in Bangalore goes and finds street boys like these, and fights for their safety, welfare and education whenever possible.

Little or Much
A story of faith in Uganda

A while back, I told the story of three orphan girls that decided to live in the city, and seek support for further education since they were getting too old for orphanage support. The eldest, Damali, was asked to take in a fourth girl whose parents had both died. They immediately took this girl in, although they could barely support themselves.

In the past few years they introduced her to church, taught her to cook, taught her English, found education funds and brought her to know the Lord. Here is a lesson that we all need to learn: no matter how little you have, there's always enough to share.

Recently Damali sent me an email telling me that someone had broken in to their tiny little apartment, if you can call it that, and stole everything of value from the front room while they slept. They were left traumatized and in need. But still they trust in God, and know that His hand is watching out for them.

People have often marveled at my faith throughout many trials, but when I look at the faith of those far less fortunate, I find that I have much to be grateful for.
